Symptom

Web browser can be upgraded with additional functions. Third-party software is installed as an "add-on" or "plug-in". Quite frequently this manipulates search results or delivers unwanted websites to your browser.

Solution

To remove browser add-ons, first open your web brwoser and see the "set-up" or "configuration" of your plugins:

• Firefox: Menu "Extras" -> Menu "Add-ons" -> Section "Plugins"
• Internet Explorer: Menu "Extras" -> "Manage add-ons " -> Section "Toolbars and extensions"
• Chrome: Icon "Configure Google Chrome " (three horizontal bars) -> Menu "Settings" -> Section "Add-ons"
• Safari: Icon "Configuration" (gear) -> Menu "Settings" -> Tab "Extensions"

Identify the toolbar that you want to remove and turn it off by the selection or buttons available. Toolbars or plug-ins of famous brands or programs such as "Apple", "Microsoft", "Skype", "Java", "QuickTime", "Shockwave", "Silverlight", "iTunes", "Windows Presentation Foundation" should not be removed.

Restart your web browser. Check whether the toolbars that you have removed are really gone. Malicious software may prevent its own deinstallation.

Some browser add-ons are deliberately made to circumvent de-installation routines of browsers. In that case, use the Windows system control icon -> icon "Software" to remove the add-on.
